Group 2 Verbs typically end in a vowel soundβ€”either 'i' or 'e'β€”plus -γ‚‹ Ex) ι£ŸγΉγ‚‹ [taberu]

To convert a group 2 verb in the polite form,

  • Step 1: take off the '-ru' at the end Ex) ι£ŸγΉγ‚‹ [taberu] β†’ 食べ [tabe]
  • Step 2: add the polite ending -ます Ex) 食べ [tabe] β†’ ι£ŸγΉγΎγ™ [tabemasu]

閉めます [shimemasu]
I close.

  • Step 1: 閉める [shimeru] β†’ 閉め [shime]
  • Step 2: 閉め [shime] β†’ 閉めます [shimemasu]

Exception for Group 1 verb (these verbs end in 'ru' but are Group 1)

  • ζ»‘γ‚‹ [suberu] means 'to slide'
  • εˆ‡γ‚‹ [kiru] means 'to cut'
