직업이 뭐예요? [ji-geo-bi mwo-ye-yo?]
What is your profession?
- 직업 [ji-geop] means “profession”
- 이 [-i] makes “직업 [ji-geop]” the subject of the sentence
- 뭐예요 [mwo-ye-yo] means “What is it?”
- Literally means “profession, what is it?”
“Your” is implied in 직업이 뭐예요?
______이에요/예요. [___i-e-yo/ye-yo]
I’m a____.
- 학생이에요. [hak-saeng-i-e-yo]
I’m a student. - 가수예요. [ga-su-ye-yo]
I’m a singer.
Remember to have 이에요 [i-e-yo] after a consonant sound and 예요 [ye-yo] after a vowel sound.
저는 [jeo-neun] is roughly translated to ‘as for me’
저는 학생이에요. [jeo-neun hak-saeng-i-e-yo] (As for me), I’m a student.
Conversation
- A: 혹시 저한테 궁금한거 있어요?
Is there anything you're curious about me? - B: 직업이 뭐예요? [ji-geo-bi mwo-ye-yo?]
What is your profession? - A: 사실... 이건 비밀인데... 저는 가수예요. 직업이 뭐예요?
Actually... this is a secret, but I'm a singer. What's your profession? - B: 학생이에요. [hak-saeng-i-e-yo]
I’m a student. - A: 아~ 학생!
