The honorific suffix -(이)세요:

  • The suffix -이세요 (or -세요 when the noun ends in a vowel) is the honorific form of -이에요/예요.
  • It's used to show respect when referring to or addressing someone else's state, title, or identity.

이쪽은 인턴이세요. [i-jjo-geun in-teon-i-se-yo]
Over here is the intern.

  • 이쪽은 [i-jjo-geun] means "Over here"
  • 인턴이세요 [in-teon-i-se-yo] means "S/he is the intern."

이쪽은 대표님이세요. [i-jjo-geun dae-pyo-nim-i-se-yo]
Over here is the CEO.

  • 대표 [dae-pyo] means "representative"
  • 대표님 [dae-pyo-nim] means "CEO"
  • The suffix -님 shows respect.

팀장님이세요? [tim-jang-nim-i-se-yo?]
Are you the team leader?

  • 팀장님 [tim-jang-nim] means "team leader"
  • ___(이)세요? [___(i)se-yo?] means "are you?"

Examples:

  • 선생님이세요. [seon-saeng-nim-i-se-yo] "S/he is a teacher."

  • 가수세요. [ga-su-se-yo] "S/he is a singer."
  • 가수세요? [ga-su-se-yo?] "Are you a singer?" Or "Is s/he a singer?"

잘 부탁드립니다. [jal bu-tak-deu-rim-ni-da]
I look forward to working with you.

  • [jal] means "well"
  • 부탁드립니다 [bu-tak-deu-rim-ni-da] is a formal way of saying "I request" or "I ask for a favor."
  • It implies that you're aware of the other person's effort and are grateful in advance.
