어디에 있어요? [eo-di-e i-sseo-yo?]
Where is it?
- 어디 [eo-di] means "where"
- 에 [e] is a particle that marks where
- 있어요? [i-sseo-yo?] means "there is?"
- Literally means "Where, there is?"
To ask where a specific place is, add the word for "place" before this question.
Place + (이 [i] /가 [ga]) + 어디에 있어요?
화장실이 어디에 있어요? [hwa-jang-si-ri eo-di-e i-sseo-yo?]
Where is the bathroom?
- 화장실 [hwa-jang-sil] means "bathroom"
- 이 [i] is a particle that marks a subject
- Literally means "bathroom, where is it?"
가 [ga] and 이 [i] are both particles that marks a subject.
When the word ends in a CONSONANT sound, we use 이 [i]
버스 정류장 [beo-seu jeong-nyu-jang]
화장실 [hwa-jang-sil]
When the word ends in a VOWEL sound, we use 가 [ga]
카페 [ka-pe]
매표소 [mae-pyo-so]
지하철역에 있어요. [ji-ha-cheol-ryeo-ge i-sseo-yo]
It's in the subway station.
