When a doctor asks 어떻게 오셨어요? [eo-tteo-ke o-syeo-sseo-yo?], s/he is asking for the purpose you came in.
어떻게 오셨어요? [eo-tteo-ke o-syeo-sseo-yo?]
What brings you here?
- 어떻게 [eo-tteo-ke] means "How"
- 오셨어요? [o-syeo-sseo-yo?] means "Did you come?"
목이 아파서 왔어요. [mo-gi a-pa-seo wa-sseo-yo]
I came because I have a sore throat.
- 목이 아파서 [mo-gi a-pa-seo] means "because I have a sore throat,"
- 왔어요 [wa-sseo-yo] means "I came."
배가 아파서 왔어요. [bae-ga a-pa-seo wa-sseo-yo]
I came because I have a stomachache.
