How to turn a question into a soft proposal
Step 1: Drop the 다 [da]. 먹다 [meok-da] to eat → 먹 [meok]
Step 2: Add -을 [eul] / -ㄹ [l] 까요? [kka-yo?]. 먹 [meok] → 먹을까요? [meo-geul-kka-yo?]
When the verb stem ends in a CONSONANT sound,
we use -을까요? [eul-kka-yo?]
- 읽- [ilk-]
- 먹- [meok-]
When the verb stem ends in a VOWEL sound,
we use -ㄹ까요? [-l-kka-yo?]
- 영화를 보- [yeong-hwa-reul bo-]
- 피아노를 치- [pi-a-no-reul chi-]
뭐 먹을까요? [mwo meo-geul-kka-yo?]
What shall we eat?
- 뭐 [mwo] means "what"
- 먹을까요? [meo-geul-kka-yo?] means "shall we eat?"
오늘 뭐 할까요? [o-neul mwo hal-kka-yo?]
What shall we do today?
- 오늘 [o-neul] means "today"
- 뭐 할까요? [mwo hal-kka-yo?] means "what shall we do?"
주말에 드라이브 갈까요? [ju-ma-re deu-ra-i-beu gal-kka-yo?]
Shall we go on a drive during the weekend?
- 주말에 [ju-ma-re] means "during the weekend"
- 드라이브 [deu-ra-i-beu] means "go on a drive"
- 갈까요? [gal-kka-yo?] means "Shall we go?"
소풍을 갈까요? [so-pung-eul gal-kka-yo?]
Shall we go on a picnic?
- Step 1: 소풍을 가다 [so-pung-eul ga-da] to go on a picnic → 소풍을 가 [so-pung-eul ga]
- Step 2: 소풍을 가 [so-pung-eul ga] → 소풍을 갈까요? [so-pung-eul gal-kka-yo?]

What shall we do today? - B: 오늘 영화를 볼까요? [o-neul yeong-hwa-reul bol-kka-yo?]
Shall we watch a movie today? - A: 네, 영화 좋아요. 주말에는 뭐 할까요?
