Unit 02
Talking About Your Actions

Lesson
Group 2 Verbs typically end in a vowel sound—either 'i' or 'e'—plus -る Ex) 食べる [taberu]
To convert a group 2 verb in the polite form,
- Step 1: take off the '-ru' at the end Ex) 食べる [taberu] → 食べ [tabe]
- Step 2: add the polite ending -ます Ex) 食べ [tabe] → 食べます [tabemasu]
閉めます [shimemasu]
I close.
- Step 1: 閉める [shimeru] → 閉め [shime]
- Step 2: 閉め [shime] → 閉めます [shimemasu]
Exception for Group 1 verb (these verbs end in 'ru' but are Group 1)
- 滑る [suberu] means 'to slide'
- 切る [kiru] means 'to cut'

- Step 1: 教える [oshieru] → 教え [oshie]
- Step 2: 教え [oshie] → 教えます [oshiemasu]
