The structure てもいい [te mo ii] means "It is okay to..." or "You are allowed to..."

  • ても [te mo] is a combination of the て-form + も, which adds the meaning of "even if."
  • いい [ii] means "good" or "okay."

食べてもいいですか [tabete mo ii desu ka]
May I eat?

  • 食べる [taberu] means "eat"
  • 食べて [tabete] て-form
  • いいですか [ii desu ka] Is it okay?

飲んでもいいですか [nonde mo ii desu ka]
May I drink?

  • 飲む [nomu] means "drink"
  • 飲んで [nonde] て-form

試着してもいいですか [shichaku shite mo ii desu ka]
May I try it on?

  • 試着する [shichaku suru] means "try on (clothes)"
  • 試着して [shichaku shite] て-form

どうぞ [dōzo] Go right ahead!

    May I try this on?
